About the place
The garden was founded in 1860 by Dr Carol Davila, by a decree signed by Alexandru Ioan Cuza. After two moves it has occupied its present site next to Cotroceni Palace since 1884, land obtained by the botanist Dimitrie Brândză, whose name it has carried since 1994. It belongs to the University of Bucharest and has outdoor sections including the rose garden, Mediterranean plants, the Italian Garden, the flora of Dobruja and the Conifer Hill.
The exhibition greenhouses, built in 1973–1976, cover more than 2,500 m² and include the Tropical Forest pavilion, and the Botanical Museum opened in 1978. It holds 4.3 on Google from more than 16,200 reviews: many praise the greenhouses, while others found the garden itself disappointing.
