The building is a category A listed monument, and the restaurant holds 4.5 on Google from more than 3,700 reviews.
About the place
The house was designed by the architect Ion Mincu for the 1889 Paris World Exhibition and built in 1892 on Kiseleff Road, and the minister Petre P. Carp decided it should be used as a restaurant. It is built in the Neo-Romanian style, modelled on peasant houses with a loggia, with arches on carved wooden posts and decoration in coloured glazed ceramics. Casa Doina has been here since 2003.
The menu has Romanian dishes such as sarmale with polenta, tripe soup, mici grilled over charcoal and papanași with sour cream and sour-cherry jam. In summer you eat in the garden under the lime trees, in winter in the dining rooms, among them the Ion Mincu room and a wine cellar. It holds 4.5 on Google from more than 3,700 reviews; guests praise the papanași, the building and the garden, while some complain about slow service on busy days.
