About the place
Expirat began in 2002 as a small seaside bar in Vama Veche and came to Bucharest in 2003, where it spent 14 seasons in a basement on Strada Ion Brezoianu. Today it fills Sala Compresoarelor in Halele Carol, a refurbished factory hall equipped for 500 people per event, with two open-air areas, and hosts more than 200 concerts, club nights and other events a year.
Since June 2025 it has also had a kitchen, Inspirat, which it calls an 'evening kitchen': food is served in the evening on the days Expirat is open, Wednesday to Sunday. The menu has pizzas named after musicians and bands (Johnny Cash, The White Stripes, Beastie Boys, Nicolae Furdui Iancu), an Angus beef cheeseburger, a pork-neck sandwich cooked in a Josper oven, Adana kebab and grilled halloumi on flatbread made from pizza dough, plus snacks such as edamame, mini pizza and hot dogs. On Google, reviews talk mostly about the concerts, the atmosphere and the terrace, and some mention the Adana kebab.
Good to know
- To eat in peace, come when the doors open, before the concert starts; a table can be booked on ialoc.ro via the 'Make a reservation' button on expirat.org.
- Concerts need a ticket, usually sold through iabilet.ro, and a DJ normally takes over after the show.
- Entry is 18+ only, and smoking is not allowed indoors in Sala Compresoarelor, only in the designated areas.
