About the place
The church stands outside the courtyard walls, next to the gate tower, and served as the palace chapel. Brâncoveanu finished it on 20 September 1688, shortly before he became ruling prince. It is built of brick on a single-nave plan, with barrel vaults and domes.
The paintings date from 1705 and include the votive portrait of Constantin Brâncoveanu with his four sons and Princess Maria with their seven daughters. They were damaged in a 1943 restoration and by the 1977 earthquake, then restored. Under a slab carved with the Bibescu arms lies George-Valentin Bibescu, a Romanian aviation pioneer and Martha Bibescu's husband.
