About the place
The lake was created on the Colentina river, about 15 km upstream of Bucharest, and is part of the chain of lakes on that river; Lake Chitila follows downstream. It is about 4.6 km long and between 50 and 500 metres wide. The palace front with its Venetian loggia faces the water.
The south shore belongs to the palace park, and at the eastern end, by the main road, there are restaurants with lake views. In the past, ice cut from the lake was kept through the summer in the palace ice house.
Good to know
- The palace's lake front is best seen from the shore in the park.
- It is not a swimming lake: water tests in 2007–2010 found heavy metals and bacteria above the limits.
- Gama Fusion restaurant, at the eastern end of the lake, has tables with a view of the water.
