About the place
The Gheorghe Bibescu Chapel stands in the park about 150 metres south of the palace. Mogoșoaia passed to the Bibescu family through Prince Gheorghe Bibescu's marriage to Zoe, heiress of the last Brâncoveanu. Nicolae Bibescu renovated the palace between 1860 and 1880 and built the family tomb in the park.
Buried here are Prince Nicolae G. Bibescu and his wife Hélène Ney d'Elchingen, Prince George Bibescu and his wife Valentine de Caraman-Chimay, Princess Elisabeth Bibescu, and the princes Mihai and George Basarab-Brâncoveanu, airmen who died in the Second World War. Around it is a shaded meadow close to the lake.
Good to know
- The tomb is in the park, outside the palace courtyard, so it is not part of the museum ticket.
- The meadow around it is a shaded spot for a break or a picnic.
- St George's Church, where George-Valentin Bibescu is buried, is about 200 metres to the north.
