About the place
The businessman Jacques Herdan bought the plot in 1865 and built a hotel here to plans by the architect Alexandru Orăscu, opened in 1871 (1873 according to other sources). From 1877 it was called the Grand Hôtel du Boulevard and was the first hotel in Bucharest with running water; the Alcalay bookshop occupied the ground floor. After the war the building was nationalised and used by a ministry, then spent many years under renovation until it reopened in spring 2025 under the Corinthia brand.
The hotel has Sass' restaurant and lounge, the Heritage Bar and a spa on the fourth floor, while the Boulevard 73 hall hosts events. It holds 9.7 on Booking from 189 reviews, with 9.9 for comfort, and 4.7 on Google from 323 reviews. The review count is low because the hotel has only been open since 2025.
