About the place

The palace was built between 1833 and 1835 for the high official Costache Suțu, to plans by the Viennese architects Conrad Schwink and Johann Veit, in the Neo-Gothic style. In 1862 the sculptor Karl Storck remodelled the interior and added the monumental two-armed staircase, facing a mirror brought from Murano that doubles the perspective. In the second half of the 19th century the first ball of the year was held here every February.

Since 1959 the palace has housed the Bucharest Municipal Museum. The permanent exhibition 'Timpul Orașului' tells the city's history through objects from archaeological digs, donations and purchases, and the museum also stages temporary exhibitions. It holds 4.5 on Google from more than 1,800 reviews.
