It is a protected area of national importance (nature reserve, IUCN category IV, declared by Law 5/2000) and holds 4.5 on Google from more than 2,100 reviews.
About the place
The reserve lies in the forest on the southern shore of the lake, west of Snagov village and Snagov Parc. It was declared a protected area by Law 5/2000 and keeps a piece of the Vlăsia woods, the forest that once covered the plain north of Bucharest.
The forest has pedunculate oak, small-leaved lime, Turkey oak and hazel, and a few beech trees grow among them, rare in the lowlands. In spring there are snowdrops, lily of the valley and wood anemones, and in summer the martagon lily. The asphalt road through the forest is used for walks and bike rides.
Good to know
- Keep to the road and existing paths: it is a protected area with visiting rules.
- In summer it is cooler under the oaks than in the city; bring water and mosquito spray.
- Fundația Snagov also runs guided nature walks (snagov.ro).
