About the place
The monastery is on the DJ101B in Ciofliceni and belongs to the Order of Discalced Carmelites, a contemplative Catholic order. The friars moved here in 2006, the foundation stone of the sanctuary was blessed on 13 May 2012, and the church of Regina Carmelului (Queen of Carmel) was consecrated on 30 May 2015 by Ioan Robu, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Bucharest.
The architect Tudor Rădulescu took Romanian village houses as his model: black-and-white façades, carved wood, heavy pillars and horse heads as a motif on the roof timbers. The tower, the monastery, the guest house and the church frame two courtyards, one reserved for the friars. In the apse, mosaics show the Heavenly Jerusalem.
