About the place
Origo was opened in 2013 by Mihai Panfil, who describes it as Romania's first specialty coffee shop with its own roastery; he also founded the COFFeEAST coffee festival. The beans come from Origo's own roastery, Coffeenativ Roastery, in Cernica (Ilfov County), and Origo also runs a second café on Calea Dorobanți and a barista school on Strada Ion Brezoianu.
By day it is a café serving espresso and filter coffee from specialty beans; in the evening the bar switches to cocktails, and food is limited to light snacks such as banana bread. On Google, the cocktails, the flat white and the specialty coffee are mentioned most, followed by the banana bread, V60 filter coffee, matcha and the terrace.
Good to know
- On Mondays the café closes at 20:00; from Tuesday to Friday it is open from 7:30 to 24:00, and at weekends from 8:00 to 24:00.
- Origo's own roasts, for espresso or filter, can also be ordered on origocoffee.ro.
- Origo's courses for baristas and home enthusiasts take place at its Barista Academy at Strada Ion Brezoianu 4, a few steps from the café.
